Steve Bruce – Biography

Steve began his media career in 1989 working as a TV Buying Specialist for global advertising agency McCann Erickson in London, where he worked on the Coca-Cola, Esso & Black & Decker accounts for two and a half years.

Having ‘cut his teeth’ and established himself in the industry as a keen negotiator, he left McCann’s at the end of 1991 and spent one and a half years traveling through Asia.

On his return to London in early 1993, he worked for CIA Medianetwork (now WPP owned CIAME) as a TV Buying Specialist on the Clerical Medical, KABI Pharmacia & Ferguson Electronics accounts before moving on to Initiative Media where he worked as Senior Media Planner/Buyer on the Organics Shampoo, Timotei and SURE deodorant accounts.

However, the lure of Asia proved too strong for Steve to resist and he left London again at the end of 1995, finally settling in Hong Kong in early 1997.

He quickly joined Leo Burnett as Regional Media Group Head running the Philip Morris & Reebok accounts before hopping the media fence into the outdoor media arena, where he worked with TEXON Media (now JC Decaux Texon Media), a well-known Bus Shelter media owner in Hong Kong as Associate Sales Director.

Here he was responsible for the set up of Red Wall Media, a large sized video wall project in Beijing Central and West railway stations.

With this project completed, he focused his skills on the sales and marketing of the TEXON Media brand in Hong Kong, where he made significant contributions to raising the profile and revenue of the medium locally.

In December 1999, Steve was poached by MEDIA magazine, The Asia regions communications industry bible where he was appointed Regional Advertising Director.

Here he was responsible for raising the profile of the magazine regionally, moderating and running discussion panels at the magazines many seminars and award shows as well as achieving record-breaking revenue growth for the magazine.

In late 2001, he left MEDIA magazine to set up his own company – Sales & Marketing consultancy, SB Consulting (www.sbconsulting.com.hk) which provides revenue-focused business-development & marketing services to growing companies in Hong Kong. He has produced outstanding results for many clients including Poster Publicity Asia Pacific (now WPP owned KINETIC), Action Asia Magazine, SOLAS Bar, Eight Publishing, CRAFT Projects International, Web Guru Asia, Lexis Nexis & CASBAA Hong Kong.

Steve is a keen adventure sports fan. His many interests include Scuba Diving, Wakeboarding, Skydiving and Hiking.
